Enrollment Changes

Loan funding is offered to students based on the standard enrollment for the program in which they are enrolled.

The Law School requires all students to be enrolled full-time (9 credits per quarter), so all Law students are packaged for student loans assuming full-time enrollment. If a student changes their enrollment or enrolls less than full-time at any point during the academic year or after federal student loan funding has disbursed for a quarter, they will be subject to a federal loan reduction for less-than-full-time students. This process applies to both new borrowers and legacy borrowers, and may require our office to reduce loan funds that have already disbursed to your account. Students may not receive more financial assistance than their cost of attendance allows, so a reduction of loan funding could create a balance due on your UChicago student account or require a partial or total return of a living expense refund.

A student enrolled less than half time (6 credits per quarter) is not eligible to receive federal student loan funding. If you receive federal student loan funding and drop to less than half-time status, you may be required to repay all federal loan funding received. While you may apply for a credit-based private loan to cover tuition, fees, and books, you will need to be prepared to cover your living expenses out-of-pocket.
