Financial Considerations
Tuition and Living Expenses
Tuition for the 2025-2026 academic year is $83,316. Enrolling in a program of study includes additional costs beyond the tuition listed here. For a full list of direct and indirect expenses associated with the cost of attendance, please visit the Law School’s Cost of Attendance page for more information.
Cities in the United States vary as to how expensive they are to live in; this budget takes into account the cost of living in Chicago. Tuition and budget figures for 2026-2027 will be available in May, 2026.
Scholarships
All admitted applicants will be automatically considered for merit scholarships based upon the materials submitted in their application. No additional application is necessary to be considered. However, in some cases the Graduate Programs Committee may ask individual candidates to supply additional information on a case by case basis.
Scholarships are limited and available only as a portion of the total cost. In a typical LLM class, about 30% of the students will receive scholarships based on merit from the Law School (we do not offer need based scholarships). The average amount granted is between $15,000 and $20,000, and the maximum granted is 50% of tuition (we do not offer full tuition merit scholarships). LLM applicants requiring financial aid should make every effort to obtain assistance from their governments, families, employers, or other outside sources.
Amigos Brasileiros da Law School
Thanks to the generosity and leadership of Grenfel Calheiros, LLM’03, the Amigos Brasileiros da Law School Scholarship Fund will provide scholarship support to deserving students enrolled in the Master of Laws program that have earned a bacharelado or equivalent degree in Brazil.
There is no separate application for this scholarship. All eligible candidates will be automatically considered for this funding if offered admission to the LLM.
Malyi Scholars
Students educated in former Soviet states are eligible for consideration for funding as Malyi Scholars. This scholarship was created from the generosity of Pavel Malyi, LLM ’95. In addition to this scholarship, Mr. Malyi also funded the Malyi Center for the Study of Institutional and Legal Integrity.
There is no separate application for this scholarship. All eligible candidates will be automatically considered for this funding if offered admission to the LLM.
An Investment Worth Making
