December Apply for MPRE Accommodations

If you will need accommodations for the March MPRE, it is recommended that you submit now. Visit the MRPE site for complete information. MPRE dates and deadlines can be reviewed here.  

January To-Do List
January Review Bar Information Confirm that you have read and understand the Law School's information regarding the bar exam.
January Submit Disclosures Start the process of collecting information regarding disclosures early. We recommend that if you are disclosing something to the bar, you disclose it to the law school as well. You have a continuing duty to disclose to the law school anything that has happened since you matriculated.  
By January 26 Apply for March 2023 MPRE  If applicable, sign up for the March 2023 MPRE.
February To-Do List
By February 1 Apply to Graduate Applying to graduate confirms information regarding your intent to graduate. Complete the application in the student portal. The application will also allow you to record your name pronunciation. 
By February 1 Submit Bar Authorization Form  Use the Bar Authorization Form PDF and turn it in to the Office of the Registrar. The bar authorization form gives the Office of the Registrar full consent to correspond with the Board of Law Examiners. ALL documents related to your law school attendance (e.g., Dean Certifications, etc.) should go to the Law School Office of the Registrar. 
February 7-18 Sign up to take a Class Composite Photo  Each graduating 3L and LLM is photographed and included in the class composite at no charge, with the option to purchase photos. A photographer will be on site to take composite photos on Feb 7-18. More info and sign up!
By February 10 Complete the Graduating Student Questionnaire All graduating JD students must complete the Law School’s annual Graduating Student QuestionnaireFailure to complete the questionnaire by the deadline will lead to a registration hold being placed on the student’s account. The hold will prevent students from registering for the spring quarter. 
By February 20 Submit Name Changes Central Registrar If your current name of record (check is not what you want on your diploma, submit a name change. Note that the way your name appears on your diploma is the way it will be read at graduation. 
By February 21 Confirm your fingerprinting requirements for the Bar Exam A number of jurisdictions require fingerprints for some or all bar applicants. Please check the state bar website where you will be sitting for the bar exam to determine if you can submit ink fingerprints, or if it is one of the states that requires Live Scan fingerprints. There is a free fingerprinting service offered through the Department of Safety and Security at the University of Chicago that is available to members of the University community. March To-Do List
March 30  Attend the Graduation Fair Coffee Mess Join the Law School for graduation related information and resources. The Registrar, Dean of Students, various student services offices and the Bookstore, will answer questions and provide resources. You may complete your bar certifications and pick up other bar related information, ask questions about graduation, and more!
April To-Do List
By April 20  Order your Academic Regalia You may place your order online through Oak Hall, the University's regalia vendor. For complete information or to view official regalia, visit the University's Convocation Website or the academic regalia page on the law school site for specific information on JD/JSD and LLM/MLS regalia.
Opens April 11- 21 Reserve Guest Tickets

JD, LLM, JSD, and MLS candidates are eligible to request up to four (4) tickets to the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony in Rockefeller Chapel and up to five (5) tickets to the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony Simulcast overflow seating in the Law School Auditorium. Each candidate is responsible for reserving tickets on behalf of their guests via an online portal. Guest tickets are required for admittance for both ceremonies and can be claimed via an online portal beginning April 11 at 12:00 PM through April 21 at 12:00 PM. A link to the online portal will be provided to all candidates on April 11. 

Depending on availability, candidates may receive up to one (1) additional ticket to the ceremony in Rockefeller through the online portal which will open on April 22 at 12:00 PM through April 25 at 5:00 PM. Additional tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis and students must login the same online portal to claim their extra ticket.

Graduates do not need a ticket. Children under 2 years do not need a ticket if they will be seated on a ticket holder’s lap during the ceremony. All other guests must have a ticket.

By April 26 Request to Hood

Spouses, parents (not in-laws), immediate siblings (not in-laws), grandparents, aunts/uncles, and University-recognized domestic partners who have received a degree from the University of Chicago Law School are eligible to hood graduating students at the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony. Students wishing to have a family member hood them must submit an application by 11:59 PM on April 26.

One family hooder is permitted per student. Students will be notified whether the request can be accommodated by the Law School no later than May 3. Family hooders are asked to wear appropriate business attire as they will be seated on the Chancel at Rockefeller Chapel throughout the ceremony. Please note: a family hooder requires a ticket in order to attend.

May To-Do List
By May 23 Special Accommodations

Limited accessible seating is available at the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony in Rockefeller Chapel for guests using wheelchairs, persons with limited mobility, and guests with visual or hearing impairments. Guests in this seating area may be joined by (1) one companion. Please note: companion requires a ticket in order to attend.
Guests attending the 536th University Convocation ceremony in the Main Quad may be joined in the accessible seating area by (2) companions.
To make arrangements for either ceremony, please submit your request by completing the Guest Accommodation Request Form. You will receive a confirmation of your request the week prior to the diploma & hooding ceremony.

Please note: The University does not provide wheelchairs. Individuals are responsible for bringing their own to all ceremonies. Please confer with guests in advance about any special needs to avoid having wheelchair-bound guests arrive without wheelchair-accessible seating available.

June To-Do List
By June 10 Submit your Locker Extension   All graduating student lockers must be cleaned out by June 10. If you would like to request a locker extension, please fill out a locker extension request no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 27. Students with locker use extension may continue to use their lockers until August 5. All personal items left in lockers after August 5 will be disposed.
