On-going Review Degree Audit Visit my.uchicago.edu and review your degree audit. If you have questions about your audit, please schedule time to meet with the Registrar's Office staff to discuss. 
December Apply for MPRE Accommodations

If you will need accommodations for the March MPRE, it is recommended that you submit now. Visit the MRPE site for complete information. MPRE dates and deadlines can be reviewed here.  

January 2025 To-Do List
January Review Bar Information Confirm that you have read and understand the Law School's information regarding the bar exam.
January Submit Disclosures Your bar application will ask you to disclose any charges, convictions, violations, misconduct, etc. whether or not they can be discovered through a background investigation. Any disclosures that you make on your Bar Exam Application you should also make to the Law School. Inconsistency in disclosures may cause delays in approval of your application. Start the process of collecting information regarding disclosures early. Please contact the Registrar's Office, registrar@law.uchicago.edu, if you would like to discuss a disclosure before officially submitting the disclosure. Please note that once a disclosure to the Law School has been made, it cannot be removed from your educational record. To submit a disclosure, complete this online form.
By January 23 Apply for March 2025 MPRE  If applicable, sign up for the March 2025 MPRE.
January 27 - February 7 Sign up to take a Class Composite Photo  Each graduating student has the option to sign up and get a photograph taken for the Class Composite photo at no charge, with the option to purchase photos. A photographer will be on site to take composite photos on Jan 27 - Feb 7. More info and sign up!
By January 31 Apply to Graduate and Record Name Pronunciation
Applying to graduate confirms information regarding your intent to graduate. Complete the application in the my.uchicago.edu student portal. The application will also allow you to record your name pronunciation. 
By January 31 Ceremony Attendance

If you would like to attend a Friday ceremony for observant students, send an email to: deanofstudents@law.uchicago.edu by FRI, 01/31.

If you don’t plan to attend the Law School Diploma & Hooding ceremony on SAT, 06/07, send an email to: deanofstudents@law.uchicago.edu by FRI, 01/31.

February 2025 To-Do List
By February 7 Complete the Graduating Student JD Questionnaire  All graduating JD students must complete the Law School’s annual Graduating Student QuestionnaireFailure to complete the questionnaire by the deadline will lead to a registration hold being placed on the student’s account. The hold will prevent students from registering for the spring quarter. 
By February 21 Submit Bar Authorization Form  Submit the Bar Authorization Form. The bar authorization form gives the Office of the Registrar full consent to correspond with the Board of Law Examiners. ALL documents related to your law school attendance (e.g., Dean Certifications, etc.) should go to the Law School Office of the Registrar. 
By February 21 Submit Name Changes Central Registrar If your current name of record (check my.uchicago.edu) is not what you want on your diploma, submit a name change. Note that the way your name appears on your diploma is the way it will be read at graduation. 
By February  Confirm your fingerprinting requirements for the Bar Exam

A number of jurisdictions require fingerprints for some or all bar applicants. Please check the state bar website where you will be sitting for the bar exam to determine if you can submit ink fingerprints, or if it is one of the states that requires Live Scan fingerprints. 

There is a free fingerprinting service offered through the Department of Safety and Security at the University of Chicago that is available to members of the University community. UCPD will be available between 8:30 - 10:00 AM, and 12:15 - 1:20 PM for fingerprinting in the Green Lounge on January 22, 2025. You may also make an individual appointment by calling 773.702.6008 or emailing ucpd-cru@uchicago.eduPlease remember to bring government ID.
March 2025 To-Do List
April 9 Attend the Graduation Fair Coffee Mess Join the Law School for graduation related information and resources. The Registrar, Dean of Students, various student services offices and the Bookstore, will answer questions and provide resources. You may also complete your bar authorization forms and pick up other bar related information at the Registrar table! 
April 2025 To-Do List
By April 21 (JD/JSD) and April 28 (LLM/MLS)  Order your Academic Regalia You may place your order online through Oak Hall, the University's regalia vendor. For complete information, or to view official regalia, visit the academic regalia page on the law school site for specific information on JD/JSD and LLM/MLS regalia.
April 25 Request to Hood

Only spouses, parents (not in-laws), immediate siblings (not in-laws), grandparents, aunts/uncles, and University-recognized domestic partners who have received a degree from the University of Chicago Law School are eligible to hood graduating students at the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony.

One family hooder request is permitted per student. Students will be notified whether the request can be accommodated by the Law School no later than May 9. Family hooders are asked to wear appropriate business attire as they will be seated on stage at Rockefeller Chapel throughout the ceremony.

Please note: Family hooder requires a ticket in order to attend.

April 23 Reserve Guest Tickets

JD, LLM, JSD, and MLS candidates are eligible to request up to four (4) tickets to the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony in Rockefeller Chapel and up to five (5) tickets to the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony Simulcast overflow seating in the Law School Auditorium. Guest tickets are required for admittance for both ceremonies.

Depending on availability, candidates may enter a lottery to receive up to one (1) additional ticket to the ceremony in Rockefeller. Students will receive additional information from the Dean of Students Office if there are additional tickets.

Graduates do not need a ticket. Children under 2 years do not need a ticket. All other guests must have a ticket.

Students will receive more information on how to claim guest tickets in the middle of Spring Quarter. 

May 2025 To-Do List
May 23 Locker Extension

All graduating student lockers must be cleaned out by June 9. If you would like to request a locker extension, please fill out a locker extension request no later than 5:00 PM on May 23. Students with locker use extension may continue to use their lockers until August 1. All personal items left in lockers after August 1 will be disposed.

Special Accommodations

All candidates and guests requesting accommodations must complete the Accommodations Request Form by May 30. A form must be filled out for EACH individual needing accommodations. Additional details will be emailed to guests who filled out the form closer to event date. Accommodations are not guaranteed, and staff will do their best to accommodate requests.

Limited accessible seating is available at the Diploma & Hooding Ceremony in Rockefeller Chapel for guests using wheelchairs, persons with limited mobility, and guests with visual or hearing impairments. Guests in this seating area may be joined by (1) one companion. Please note: both guest and companion requires a ticket in order to attend.

Note: Rockefeller Chapel will be very crowded and does not have air-conditioning. Candidates may select a Simulcast ticket for overflow seating at the Law School as an alternative for guests with infants/young children, have limited mobility, heat sensitivity, or are more comfortable in a less crowded and cooler environment.

Guests attending the 539th University-wide ceremony in the Main Quad may be joined in the accessible seating area by (2) two companions. Accessible seating opens at 7:00 a.m. and is first-come first-served. The seating area is uncovered and receives direct sunlight. All guests should arrive prepared for the weather and dress accordingly.

For Candidates: Law candidates who request accommodation seating at the University-wide ceremony are seated in the front row accommodations and may not be able to be seated with the Law Division section.

The University does not provide wheelchairs or scooters. Individuals are responsible for bringing their own to all ceremonies. To avoid having wheelchair-user guests arrive without wheelchair-accessible seating available please confer with guests in advance. Additional resources for wheelchair-users can be found here.
