Professor Geoffrey Stone in office

The American Constitution Society’s Chicago Lawyer Chapter recognized Geoffrey R. Stone, '71, the Edward H. Levi Distinguished Service Professor of Law, with its inaugural recipient of the Geoffrey R. Stone Award, established in his honor.

ACS Chicago created this new award to “recognize progressive scholars who demonstrate those qualities exemplified by Professor Geoffrey R. Stone: scholarly excellence, the ability to imagine how society might be more just and more equal, and the determination to use the law and one’s scholarship to creatively and strategically make the imagined real.”

Stone was presented with the award at the 2025 “Legal Legends Luncheon” hosted by ACS Chicago as part of its 20th anniversary celebration.

Another UChicago Law legend will also be recognized at the event: Herschella G. Conyers, ’83, the former Lillian E. Kraemer Clinical Professor in Public Interest Law.

Conyers is one of three 2025 recipients of ACS Chicago’s Abner J. Mikva Award—named in honor of the late Hon. Abner J. Mikva, ’51—which recognizes Chicago-area lawyers and judges who have made extraordinary contributions to progressive legal causes.

The luncheon was held at the Union Club on September 10.
