How to Use Your Student Org Listservs

Each Student Organization is assigned two email listservs. One is externally facing and is connected to the Law School’s Student Organization Directory. This email allows people outside of the Law School to contact your group. Your second listserv is for maintaining scribers (LSSO members only. This is a list for internal communication between your board and your members. Both lists are accessed through lists.uchicago.edu and can be logged in with your CNET ID and password. All LSSO Presidents have been provided access to these lists and should log-in on the lists.uchicago.edu to access your specific lists. Starting in Fall 2023, LSSOs should start using Law Connect to maintain their membership list and internal communications moving forward. Thus, the internal listserv for your LSSO should be transferred to Law Connect by Winter 2024.

Steps to Access Your Lists:

  1. Connect with Candace Mui to confirm the name of your group's listserv names.
  2. Visit lists.uchicago.edu, log-in and search for your listservs by name.

How to Advertise Your Events on the Law_Events Listserv

Law_Events is the Law School’s email list that student organizations can use to share event information. All students are automatically added to the list and can opt-out at any time through the lists@uchicago.edu site.

Who can use Law_Events?

Each organization may designate one person from their board who will have sending privileges to the listserv. No other individuals will be able to send emails through the listserv.

How do I use Law_Events?

Your designee should send any event emails for the student body to law_events@lists.uchicago.edu with the following guidelines in mind:

  • Emails must include text along with any images or attachments to ensure that the message is accessible to those using assistive technology.

  • Organizations may advertise their events up to two times through the listserv.

  • Organizations may only send emails related to events.

  • Event images or PDFs may be included.

  • Emails for purposes other than events (e.g. selling or lost items, commentary on events, news stories, jokes, etc.) will not be permitted.

  • Student orgs should begin the subject of their email with their organization abbreviation.

  • Student orgs found in violation of the rules may face sanctions, including loss of listserv privileges, for a period of time.

How to Post Your Events on the Law School Events Calendar

LSSOs can post their events to the Law School’s event calendar because it allows the Law School community, alumni, and other interested parties to learn in advance about LSSO events and programs. All events posted to the Law School website will be automatically included in the Law School Weekly Briefs, a weekly bulletin of activities and announcements for the Law School community, and are published each Monday by the Communications Office.

To add an event to the Law School event calendar and to the Weekly Briefs students will need to create an event page. Your event will be reviewed, approved, and posted to the calendar within 2-3 days, so please make sure you allow enough time prior to your event when you post. Posts must be in by Noon on Fridays to be included in the Monday morning weekly briefs.
