About the Institute
Founded in 2020, the Constitutional Law Institute is dedicated to supporting research and scholarship on enduring constitutional issues as a core element of the Law School’s academic mission. The Institute embodies the Law School’s commitment to free speech and independent intellectual inquiry, free from partisan influence. The University of Chicago Law School is renowned for its pioneering work in law and economics, and the Constitutional Law Institute leverages this tradition by supporting faculty research in the equally vital field of public law.
The Institute’s vision is to convene leading scholars from across the country to share, discuss, and analyze significant constitutional law topics. This encompasses in-depth research on constitutional history, including both the Founding era and subsequent amendments, as well as studies on the separation of powers, federalism, and individual rights. By promoting rigorous analysis of constitutional matters, the Institute aims to disseminate these ideas widely to the public.
