Does A.I. Need a Constitution?
Aziz Huq, a law professor at the University of Chicago, compares Anthropic’s use of “constitution” to Meta’s use of “oversight”: “They are taking words and models that connote publicness and responsiveness to the public through particular mechanisms, and they are transplanting them into contexts in which those mechanisms don’t exist, and they’re benefitting from the confusion that results.” That doesn’t mean that these companies’ intentions are necessarily suspicious, Huq said. They might be quite sincere.
