2014 Summer Jobs in the Clinics
In summer 2014 the clinical law program plans to hire a number of UChicago Law students to work in the various clinics. Paid summer positions will be open for the following clinics:
- Abrams Environmental Law Clinic
- Civil Rights Clinic: Police Accountability
- Corporate Lab Clinic
- Criminal and Juvenile Justice Project Clinic/Post Incarceration Reentry Clinic
- Employment Law Clinic
- Exoneration Project Clinic
- Federal Criminal Justice Clinic
- Housing Initiative Clinic
- Institute for Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship
- International Human Rights Clinic
- Mental Health Advocacy Clinic
- Young Center Immigrant Child Advocacy Clinic
Each of these clinics seeks energetic, dedicated and motivated students for these positions. Students selected for the summer program will be assigned to one clinic for the summer and will work on a variety of cases, transactions or other client matters. Students who work in the clinic over the summer are treated as returning clinic students in the fall and may continue with their clinic work during the 2014-15 academic year. The summer program runs from June 9, 2014 through August 15, 2014. Students will receive approximately $5000 in compensation for the summer.
An informational meeting for students interested in applying for summer clinic positions will be held on January 7, 2014 in Classroom I, starting at 12:15. Lunch will be provided. To apply, students should submit a hardcopy of their resume and a short cover letter to the receptionist’s desk in the Arthur Kane Center for Clinical Legal Education. In the cover letter, students should indicate their first two preferences for the clinics they are interested in working with during the summer. These first two preferences may be used for purposes of scheduling interviews. Students are encouraged to review the materials on each clinic’s website for information about the clinical projects. Resumes and cover letters will be accepted January 8 through the close of business (5:00 pm) on January 17, 2014. Interviews will be conducted between February 3 and February 17, 2014, and the first round of offers will be made before the end of the Winter Quarter.
Questions about the summer hiring process should be directed to Jeff Leslie, Room K-206, jleslie@uchicago.edu.
