Who is Charlie? Featuring Charlie Hebdo Journalist Zineb El Rhazoui

2/26

Open to the public

The University of Chicago French Club Presents:

On January 7, 2015, the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo became the center of global attention when two gunmen opened fire on its Paris office, murdering 12 journalists and staff. The attackers claimed to be avenging the prophet Muhammad for the irreverent cartoons Charlie Hebdo had published of him.

On February 26, 2015, join surviving journalist Zineb El Rhazoui as she discusses the context surrounding Charlie Hebdo, the French culture of satire and secularism, and freedom of expression in our contemporary society. Her visit to Chicago will be the first time a Charlie Hebdo journalist speaks in the United States since the attack.

The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions to Ms El Rhazoui in an extended Q&A moderated by Professor Robert Morrissey. Law School Professor Geoffrey Stone will give opening remarks.

RSVP is required but does not guarantee a seat. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. Please arrive early to allow time for check-in and seating.
