Please join the American Constitution Society for a discussion with Professor Carolyn Shapiro and Michael Scodro about their experiences as the Illinois Solicitor General, including interesting cases on which they worked and their career paths more generally.
Professor Shapiro served as Illinois Solicitor General from 2014 through mid-2016. She is the founder and co-director of Chicago-Kent's Institute on the Supreme Court of the United States (ISCOTUS). Her scholarship is largely focused on the Supreme Court, its relationship to other courts and institutions, and its role in our constitutional democracy. She teaches classes in legislation and statutory interpretation, constitutional law, employment law, and public interest law and policy.
Mr. Scodro is a partner in Mayer Brown's Chicago office and a member of the Supreme Court & Appellate practice. Prior to joining Mayer Brown, he spent more than six years as the Illinois Solicitor General, where he oversaw the civil and criminal appeals divisions of the Attorney General’s Office, supervising more than 40 attorneys in appeals in which the state was a party. He also advised the Illinois Attorney General on constitutional and other significant legal issues.
