Law and Philosophy Workshop: Professor David Estlund, "Liberal Associationism and the Rights of States"
The University of Chicago Law School, in partnership with the Department of Philosophy, will present a Law and Philosophy Workshop featuring David Estlund, the Lombardo Family Professor of Humanities at Brown University. Professor Estlund, the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Chicago, will give his presentation, "Liberal Associationism and the Rights of States" from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the University of Chicago Law School, Room F, 1111 E. 60th Street.
David Estlund has been teaching moral and political philosophy at Brown since 1991. He previously taught at University of California, Irvine, and has spent fellowship years at the Program in Ethics at Harvard and at Australian National University. His research interests center around liberalism, justice, and especially democracy. He is editor of the collection, Democracy (Blackwell, 2002) and the author of Democratic Authority: A Philosophical Framework (Princeton, 2008). He is currently at work on a book to be called Utopophobia, on questions of realism and idealization in political philosophy.
