DRAC (Disability Rights, Advocacy, and Community) and OCS (Office of Career Services) invite you to join a Pro Bono training session with CDEL (Center for Disability & Elder Law) on Monday 10/3 at 12:15 pm in Room F!

This year, DRAC and OCS are partnering with the Center for Disability & Elder Law to host a monthly pro bono opportunity at the law school the first Friday of every month. CDEL offers free legal services for a variety of legal issues, including simple estate planning, powers of attorney, uncontested divorces, consumer fraud, collections defense, guardianship, real property, and landlord/tenant disputes. Each month, student volunteers will perform intake interviews, document review, and direct legal services on a variety of legal issues, including simple estate planning, powers of attorney, uncontested divorces, and consumer fraud.

The 10/3 training is open to all law school students, including 1Ls! Attendance is required to begin volunteering with CDEL. Please note that pro bono training hours can count as pro bono hours for the Law School’s Pro Bono Service Initiative as long as you complete related pro bono working hours.

This convening is open to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago vaccination requirements and, because of ongoing health risks, particularly to the unvaccinated, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures (masking and social distancing, etc.) appropriate to their vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional. Public convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting COVID-19, particularly for those unvaccinated. Participants will not know the vaccination status of others and should follow appropriate risk mitigation measures
