Please join APALSA and DOS in welcoming Judge John Z. Lee as part of the Law School’s Diversity Scholar Speaker Series! Judge Lee will participate in a moderated discussion with Deputy Dean William Hubbard about his path to the judiciary and experience on the bench.

In 2022, Judge Lee made history as the first Asian American judge to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, after a 10-year tenure as a United States District Court judge for the Northern District of Illinois. Prior to his judicial service, Judge Lee worked at Freeborn & Peters LLP for more than a decade, rising from associate to partner. He also spent several years as an associate at Grippo & Elden LLC and Mayer Brown LLP, in addition to serving as a trial attorney in the Environmental and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice from 1992 to 1994. Judge Lee received his A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard College in 1989 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude, in 1992.

The Diversity Scholar Speaker Series brings together members of our law school community to discuss topics varying in subject that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students are encouraged to engage in dialogue with invited guests.

Snail Thai will be available, including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, for registered participants.
