Alumni Perspectives on Public Defense Work

A Panel Discussion with Andrew Grindrod, Sara Haley, and Andrew Sullivan

Defenders, the Public Interest Law Society, and National Lawyers Guild are excited to welcome back University of Chicago Alumni Andrew Grindrod of the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of Virginia, Sara Haley of the Hawai’i State Office of the Public Defender, and Andrew Sullivan of the Neighborhood Defender Service in Detroit. Panelists will discuss their trajectories to defense work as well as how University of Chicago students can best equip themselves for a career in public defense. Please come prepared to ask questions!

This convening is open to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago vaccination requirements and, because of ongoing health risks, particularly to the unvaccinated, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures (masking and social distancing, etc.) appropriate to their vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional.
