As part of the Law School's Spring Break of Service progam, this group worked at the Orleans Public Defenders Office in New Orleans. They spent the week shadowing and assisting individual attorneys. Their tasks included listening to jail calls, interviewing clients, and going to court.

These students spent their week at the Louisiana Capital Defense Center, a non-profit law office committed to providing quality legal representation to people facing the death penalty in Louisiana and other parts of America's South.

At the Metro Public Defender's Office in Nashville, students helped with the Defend Nashville Campaign. The campaign is geared toward improving defense services and public perception of the defender's office. Students shadowed attorneys in court, visited the jail, and conducted interviews with past and current clients.

In Knoxville, students were able to sit in on court sessions and have a discussion with the Honorable Tim Irwin. Judge Irwin played in the NFL for 14 years before practicing law full time.

In Minnesota, one group worked at the Ramsey County Public Defender's Office in Saint Paul, where they wrote memos on local traffic law violations and certain procedural issues in extradition. The other Minnesota group worked at the Center on Crime and Justice in Minneapolis, where they researched the expungement of criminal records, helped with strategy for an appellate expungement case, and reviewed a case for a client hoping for exoneration. Three of the five Minnesota students are shown.

Some Law School students devoted their March break to serving the public interest during Spring Break of Service trips to New Orleans, Nashville, Knoxville, and Minneapolis, and others experienced foreign legal systems during International Immersion trips to Japan and Argentina.
