On Thursday, January 19, the Chicago Law Foundation held its 20th Public Interest Auction to raise money for fellowships for students working in the public interest. Thirty-nine items were offered in the live auction, presided over once again by Professor Douglas Baird.

Faculty offerings are always popular items in the live auction, and this year they included board games with Professor Omri Ben-Shahar and his family, an authentic Indian meal hosted and cooked by Professor Martha Nussbaum, golf with Professor Saul Levmore, poker with Professor Jonathan Masur and Dean Thomas Miles, and for the first time this year, a game of Dungeons and Dragons with Professor Richard McAdams and dungeonmaster Professor William Baude. Non-faculty items included Cubs tickets, Packers tickets, a weekend in a Lake Michigan vacation house, and tickets to the NBA All-Star game.

Hundreds of items were also available in a silent auction, including artwork (some handmade by students and staff), gift certificates to local attractions, signed books, babysitting, customized Nike shoes, meals cooked by students, and rides to Costco.

CLF also raised money through the annual Oliver Wendell Holmes mustache contest. Students grew elaborate (or not-so-elaborate) mustaches and auction attendees votes with their dollars for the best one.

The Chicago Law Foundation raised $56,765 for public interest fellowships. Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to the many faculty, students, staff, alumni, friends, merchants, and law firms who donated to the auction and support CLF.
