2020 CLF Auction

xx
The Law School went full-on Hollywood last month with a "LAW LAW LAND" auction for the Chicago Law Foundation.
xx
The annual event raised about $50,000, which will help fund fellowships for students working in the public interest.
xx
Students bid on dozens of items in the silent auction, including an "evening soiree" of wine and cheese in Professor Brian Leiter's home, dinner at Bad Hunter with Professors Nicole Hallett and Judith Miller, drinks with Professor Tony Casey, tacos and beer with Professor from Practice Sharon Fairley, and lunch at Wishbone with Lecturers Michael Scodro and Lisa Madigan, the former Illinois attorney general.
xx
Students also bid on tickets to arts and sporting events, food and drink packages, bar review sessions, and more.
xx
Long time CLF auctioneer, Professor Douglas Baird, returned to this live auction--but he shared a bit of the work.
xx
Michaela Mapes, '21, a trained auctioneer, presided over part of the live auction.
xx
Students bid on more than three dozen live auction items, including wine tasting with Professors Tom Ginsburg and Jonathan Masur, an afternoon tea with Professors Emily Buss and Alison LaCroix, karaoke with Professors Genevieve Lakier and John Rappaport, and dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse with Professors Herschella Conyers and Craig Futterman.
xx
One popular item: a "Nerds' Night In," which was described as "pizza, beer, a basement, a lava lamp, a poster of The Matrix, a scarf of the fourth Dr. Who, and a rousing game of Dungeons and Dragons ... with Professor [Will] Baude [serving] as Dungeon Master."
xx
The evening was a chance for students to laugh with friends.
xx
Here, two students chat with Dean Thomas J. Miles.
xx
Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to the many faculty, students, staff, alumni, friends, merchants, and law firms who donated to the auction and support CLF.

This year, long time CLF auctioneer Professor Douglas Baird shared the duty with Michaela Mapes, '21, who is a trained auctioneer. They oversaw bidding on more than three dozen items, including wine tasting with Professors Tom Ginsburg and Jonathan Masur, an afternoon tea with Professors Emily Buss and Alison LaCroix, dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse with Professors Herschella Conyers and Craig Futterman, and a "Nerds' Night In," which was described as "pizza, beer, a basement, a lava lamp, a poster of The Matrix, a scarf of the fourth Dr. Who, and a rousing game of Dungeons and Dragons ... with Professor [Will] Baude [serving] as Dungeon Master."

The Chicago Law Foundation (CLF) is a student-directed, not-for profit group that awards grants to law students who devote their summers to working in the public interest.
