Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor of History and South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago where he holds a courtesy appointment in the School of Law and the position of a Faculty Fellow with the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory.

This lecture presented some reinterpretations of certain key texts on humanism by the Indian poet and thinker Rabindranath Tagore in light of recent discussions of anthropogenic climate change and the critiques of humanocentric thinking they have sometimes given rise to.
