Kimball is a lawyer who cares deeply about making the law more accessible. In 2017, he founded LawX, the legal design lab at BYU Law School. LawX works with law students to build products that help people who can’t afford attorneys. LawX has released products addressing debt collection, eviction, and asylum that have helped thousands of people for free.

In 2019, Kimball founded SixFifty with the law firm Wilson Sonsini to bring top-level legal help to people and companies via automation and AI. SixFifty helps companies comply with employment laws nationwide. SixFifty has also created pro bono tools that have helped tens of thousands of people for free. SixFifty was acquired in 2025.
