Patrick Barry is a Visiting Lecturer at Chicago and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Law School. His research focuses on creativity, communication, team dynamics, and artificial intelligence. His is the author of twelve books, and he has also created several online courses for the educational platform Coursera, including "Good with Words: Writing and Editing" and "AI for Lawyers and Other Advocates."

An All-American soccer player in college, Professor Barry received his JD from Chicago, where he was a member of the Law Review and won both the Thomas Mulroy Prize in Appellate Advocacy and the Ann Watson Prize for Outstanding Service. After law school, he studied the theatrical aspects of Supreme Court confirmation hearings and completed a PhD in English at the University of Michigan. He then did a dual clerkship in Las Vegas with the Hon. Jennifer Dorsey and the Hon. Andrew Gordon. His work at Michigan includes collaborations with the Human Trafficking Clinic, the Child Welfare Appellate Clinic, and the Entrepreneurship Clinic. Among his teaching awards are the Wayne Booth Prize for Excellence in Teaching, the Provost’s Innovation in Teaching Prize, and the Outstanding Research Mentor Award.
