Judge Rowland is the first openly LGBT person nominated to the judiciary by President Trump. She is also a former public defender and a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School. During her tenure as a magistrate judge, Judge Rowland presided over the first alternatives-to-incarceration court in the Northern District of Illinois.
