Breaking the Silence: The Supreme Court's Unprecedented Interest in IP Issues
The Intellectual Property Law Society and the Federalist Society are happy to welcome Jeff Wall, '03, and Ashley Keller, '07, back to the Law School for a discussion on the Supreme Court's "Unprecedented Interest in IP Issues."
Jeff Wall, '03, is the Co-Head of Sullivan and Cromwell's Appellate Litigation Practice in Washington, D.C. He has argued 11 cases before the Supreme Court and filed more than 175 merits or certiorari-stage briefs in that Court. Named by The National Law Journal as a “rising star” for being “one of the youngest advocates to rack up double-digit U.S. Supreme Court appearances,” he recently argued Stryker v. Zimmer and Halo Electronics v. Pulse Electronics on the availability of enhanced damages in patent infringement cases. Mr. Wall joined S&C after serving as an Assistant to the Solicitor General in the U.S. Department of Justice. He received a number of recognitions for his advocacy before the Supreme Court during that time, including awards from the Attorney General for outstanding contributions by a new employee and from the Internal Revenue Service for outstanding support to the Office of Chief Counsel.
Mr. Wall was a law clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas and Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He has taught courses in law school on administrative law and federal jurisdiction. He is an officer of the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court, which is the principal bench-bar organization for appellate judges and lawyers in the Washington area. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee on Procedures for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, as well as the Supreme Court Historical Society. Mr. Wall graduated from Georgetown University and received a JD from the Law School in 2003.
Ashley C. Keller, '07, co-founded Gerchen Keller Capital and serves as a Managing Director. He is a former partner at Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP, The American Lawyer’s litigation boutique of the year, where he handled various trial and appellate matters involving multi-billion-dollar securities and patent cases, contractual disputes and mass-tort class actions. Before practicing, Mr. Keller was a law clerk for Judge Richard Posner at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Justice Anthony M. Kennedy at the Supreme Court of the United States.
Most recently, Mr. Keller was an analyst at Alyeska Investment Group, a Chicago-based market neutral hedge fund, where he focused on investments in companies facing litigation and other complicated regulatory matters. Mr. Keller graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a JD from the Law School in 2007, where he graduated first in his class.
Catering will be provided by Z&H MarketCafe. This event is free and open to the public, but seating may be limited.
