The Metamorphosis of IP Investing

5/4

Open to the public

The last decade has seen vast changes in the way companies develop and monetize intellectual property. Among some of the most active IP investing opportunities are in private equity, public equity, securitization, syndication and special situations. Michael D. Friedman, Managing Director of Investment Research at Ocean Tomo, LLC, works in parallel with institutional investors, hedge funds and private equity funds advising them on capital allocations to IP-themed investments. He will speak about how IP investing opportunities have evolved, how he expects the landscape to develop in the future, and how attorneys can anticipate the legal needs of their IP-rich clients.

Mr. Friedman currently heads its Asset Management business, serves as Chief Investment Officer, and heads Investment Banking at Ocean Tomo. Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, Mr. Friedman founded and was Managing Partner of FHS Investments, LLC, a multi-strategy hedge fund, and was a managing director at UBS AG where he was co-head of Special Situations investing. Mr. Friedman practiced mergers and acquisitions and securities law for a number of years before joining the investment community. Mr. Friedman also serves as a Director of Intellectual Property Exchange International. Mr. Friedman received a JD from the Law School in 1988, and was Research Editor of the University of Chicago Legal Forum. He also holds a BS in Marine Engineering and Nautical Science from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

This event is open the public. Lunch from Pizza Capri will be provided.
