Taiwan is set to hold its Presidential and Parliamentary Elections on January 13th, 2024. The results will have profound implications way beyond the island, given Taiwan's strategic geopolitical and political standing worldwide. Political commentators will certainly be watching for the geopolitical impact, but these elections are also at the frontier of democratic elections in the digital age. What do Taiwan's elections signify for the world? How should we interpret the signals emanating from the Taiwanese people to the international community? What is the path Taiwanese people choose amidst the conflicts between the United States and China? What do they tell us about the current state of freedom of speech in the political arena and efforts to prevent disinformation? Mr. Richard Tsay, JD 2019 and current LLM student Yinn-Ching Lu will join a panel to discuss Taiwan's election results and share their thoughts on their various impacts.

This event is sponsored by the University of Chicago Law School's International Programs and International Law Society.
Lunch will be provided. Please submit dietary requests eight business days prior to the program to Aican Nguyen at aican@uchicago.edu. Although we will try to accommodate dietary needs, it is not guaranteed.
