Steven Chanenson '92 Running for Delaware County (PA) Court of Common Pleas

From the Delaware County Daily Times:

Four candidates — two Republicans and two Democrats — are running for two seats on the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas this election cycle... Chanenson, 46, of Radnor, is a registered Democrat. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 and a master’s degree in criminology, also from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1988. He earned a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1992. Chanenson clerked for two U.S. Supreme Court judges and was comment editor of the University of Chicago Law Review. He has been a Villanova University School of Law professor for more than 12 years and has been associate dean for faculty research since the fall 2010. His background is in criminal law, but he also has extensive experience in civil law.

Chanenson, a former federal prosecutor, has been a member of the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing since January 2002 and is currently the chairman of the commission. The commission helps create a consistent statewide sentencing policy, according to Chanenson.

If elected, Chanenson said he would want “to be sure to provide a neutral forum where everyone who comes before me gets a fair shake and understands they will be treated with respect, and where my only goal is to follow the law and the constitution.” He also thinks it’s important to better support problem-solving courts like the drug court and the veterans’ treatment court.
