Sigrid Jernudd, Naveen Vennam

Sigrid Ursula Jernudd and Naveen Vennam were married Feb. 17 at the Gramercy Park Hotel in New York. Gulwinder S. Singh, a friend of the groom’s family who became a Universal Life minister for the occasion, officiated.

The bride and groom each graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Jernudd, 32, is a litigation associate at the New York law firm Hughes Hubbard & Reed. She received a law degree from the University of Chicago.

The bride is a daughter of Sharon J. Mann and Björn H. Jernudd of Washington. Her father, who retired as a linguistics professor from Hong Kong Baptist University, is an independent researcher in Washington focusing on sociolinguistics and Sudanese languages. Her mother is a special counsel for East Asian affairs in the antitrust division of the Justice Department in Washington.

Mr. Vennam, 37, is a principal in the real estate group in the New York office of H.I.G. Capital, an investment firm.

The groom is a son of Dr. Padma Vennam and Dr. Ramakrishna Vennam of Huntsville, Ala. The groom’s mother, a child psychiatrist, is in private practice in Huntsville.

His father, an internist, has a private practice in Madison, Ala.
