Scott Kafker, '85, Sworn In as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court

Scott Kafker, 56, was lauded as a tech-savvy judge who has worked to cut down on the court’s backlog and used the resources of the Appeals Court efficiently, during his official swearing-in by fellow Swampscott resident Gov. Charlie Baker at the John Adams Courthouse in Pemberton Square in Boston on Monday.

“I consider it a great honor, a great honor to be the sixth chief justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court,” Kafker said.

Speakers noted Kafker was the first justice to bring an iPad to the bench.

Baker noted he has known Kafker for 25 years, and said the chance to nominate Kafker was: “One of the most enjoyable things I have had the opportunity to do since we took office.”
