Ross Abbey '05 Joins Fresh Energy as Policy Associate

From Fresh Energy press release:

Fresh Energy, a St. Paul, Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) specializing in climate and clean energy policy at the state, region, and national level, is pleased to announce that Ross Abbey has joined our organization as a full-time policy associate.

Ross works on clean energy and transportation policy, with a particular focus on vehicle electrification, solar PV, and active transportation. He serves as Fresh Energy’s lead on the Minnesota Solar Challenge—a federally funded effort to identify policy levers to lower the market barriers to rooftop solar PV—and as the organization’s liaison to Drive Electric Minnesota. Ross also contributes to Fresh Energy’s work on land use and sustainable communities.

“It’s a thrill to join the organization responsible for so much of Minnesota’s leadership in clean energy, energy efficiency, and transportation options,” said Ross.

Ross formerly worked as an attorney specializing in antitrust, intellectual property, and sustainability law, and (before that) as a business-process consultant to Fortune 500 companies. He holds a JD from the University of Chicago Law School ('05) and a BS in Chemical Engineering, cum laud, from Texas A&M University in College Station.

Ross writes and speaks frequently on the social, economic, and legal aspects of energy and environmental sustainability, and has been published in the Stanford Journal of Animal Law and Policy. His extensive volunteer work includes serving as chair of the City of Minneapolis’ Citizens Environmental Advisory Committee and participating in the city’s Climate Action Plan process.

According to Michael Noble, Fresh Energy’s executive director, “Ross’s broad cross-sector experience, along with his technical background, are a good compliment to Fresh Energy’s work in helping chart a course towards a prosperous clean energy future.” He goes on to explain that “As a membership-based policy nonprofit, it is important to have passionate, multi-dimensional contributors at every position. That’s why we’re excited to welcome Ross to the team.”
