Ronald Grais '68 Named a 2014 Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow

From a Jenner & Block press release:

Jenner & Block Of Counsel Ronald B. Grais has accepted a fellowship with the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative starting in January 2014.  Thirty-eight professionals from around the world have been selected for the 2014 class, which includes senior executives from several sectors: government, higher education, high tech, banking and finance, media and health care.

The program brings together leaders with track records of innovation and achievement in their primary careers who seek to apply their talents to solve significant social problems.

Grais is a transactional lawyer who is highly skilled in all areas of real estate law, particularly as it relates to the development process.  With special experience in zoning, tax increment financing and construction, he represents developers, contractors and subcontractors  as well as landlords, tenants and occasionally community groups.

Grais’ fellowship will focus on the development of housing laws, including issues relating to zoning, HUD rules and disability-neutral terms, among others, as well as general mental health, a cause to which he has been strongly committed.

For more than two decades, Grais has been involved with Thresholds, the largest and oldest provider of mental health services in Illinois, including serving as president of the Board of Directors. He has helped to develop affordable housing for the program, providing nearly 1,000 high-quality, low-cost housing units for its clients.

In addition, he received the 2006 W. F. Faulkes Award from the National Rehabilitation Association Awards Committee, as well as the Citizen Community Rehabilitation Service Award, a Chicago and State of Illinois honor.
