Ronald Bell '92 Named General Counsel at Yahoo!

From Law.com:

New Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has officially named Ronald Bell to be the company's general counsel.

Bell had been Yahoo Inc.'s interim general counsel since the end of June when GC Michael Callahan announced that he was stepping down "to move on to new opportunities."

Bell, former deputy general counsel for products and the Americas region, is now responsible for Yahoo's global compliance programs and legal affairs worldwide.

"Ron Bell's legal acumen, his outstanding service to the company over the past 13 years, and his leadership within Yahoo's legal team make him an excellent choice for general counsel," CEO Mayer said in a statement.

Yahoo first hired Bell from Apple Inc. as a senior corporate counsel in July 1999, and since then he's held several senior roles within the legal department, including deputy general counsel for transactions and business counseling. He's worked on several strategic deals, including the Microsoft-Yahoo Search Alliance, a search and advertising deal, and the Yahoo Newspaper Consortium, a group of media companies that publish more than 200 U.S. newspapers.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Marissa and the entire executive team to help propel Yahoo to its next stage," Bell said in the press statement.

Bell began his legal career at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in 1992 after graduating from University of Chicago Law School that same year.
