Robert Nord

Robert Eamor Nord, 77, died on December 29, 2022, at his home in Gilbert, AZ, from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Born on April 11, 1945, in Ogden, UT to Ella Winkler Nord and Eamor Carroll Nord, he grew up in Berkeley, CA, graduating from El Cerrito HS (1963). He holds a BS in Geology from Brigham Young University (1969) and a J.D. from the University of Chicago (1972). He practiced law in Chicago (1972 – 2002), principally as a partner of Hinshaw & Culbertson in Chicago in the fields of antitrust, litigation and health law. A highlight of his professional career came when he and a colleague argued a case before the US Supreme Court.

Robert met Sherryl Anne Smith at Brigham Young University. They were married on May 15, 1969, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were married for 53 years and worked side by side raising their six children, remodeling their home at 481 Woodlawn, serving in the church, and traveling the world. During the final months of his life, he regularly told Sherryl that she was the best part of his life.

Robert was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a Church mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1964–1966). He was a member of North Shore 1st Ward in Wilmette, IL serving in various positions, including cub scout leader, stake high councilor, and bishop. After retirement, he served the Church as Associate International Legal Counsel in Moscow, Russia and Frankfurt, Germany (2005–2006).
