Rebecca Rapp St. John '00 Appointed Dane County (WI) Judge

From the Wisconsin State Journal:

State Assistant Attorney General Rebecca Rapp St. John has been appointed by Gov. Scott Walker to the Dane County Circuit Court, the governor's office announced Friday.

St. John, 36, of Madison fills a vacancy left by the May retirement of Branch 16 Judge Sarah O'Brien.

"I have a tremendous respect for the role that judges play in our system of government and our society," St. John said Friday. "They both serve at the forefront of interpreting laws and have a tremendous role in the interface they play between government and people."

An assistant attorney general for the Criminal Appeals Unit at the Wisconsin Department of Justice since November 2004, St. John represented the state in criminal appeals and federal habeas actions.

A graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, she has a master's degree in economic and social history from the University of Oxford in England.

St. John is married to state Deputy Attorney General Kevin St. John.

St. John said she plans to run for election to the Branch 16 judge's seat in April.
