She's the first female chief judge of U.S. District Court in Chicago

Rebecca Pallmeyer, 65, became chief judge of U.S. District Court in Chicago on July 1, the first woman to hold that post. She grew up in St. Louis, after her parents returned to the United States from Japan, and graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 1979. She and her husband live in the Chicago area and have two adult daughters.
