Peter Letsou '86 Named Dean of University of Memphis School of Law

From Memphis Business Journal:

Peter Letsou, present dean of the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Ore., has been named dean of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis.

Letsou will officially enter the role on June 1, according to a release from the university, and will fill the vacancy created by Kevin Smith, who decided in May 2012(1) to return to full-time research and instruction. William Kratzke has served as interim dean since then.

In a release, M. David Rudd, incoming provost at the University of Memphis, commended Letsou’s experience and capacity as “an academic leader, a sitting dean and a legal scholar.”

“Interim provost Tom Nenon and I are confident that, with his leadership, and the accomplishments of our faculty, students and alumni, we will continue to raise the national profile of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, not only locally and regionally, but nationally, as well,” Rudd said.

Letsou previously was a professor and director of the Center for Corporate Law at the University of Cincinnati College of Law; he also taught at the George Mason University School of Law.

He completed undergraduate education at Harvard College and received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
