A team of former Democratic rivals will be running the show at the Minnesota Capitol next year.

Two legislators who battled with Gov. Mark Dayton for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor gubernatorial nomination in 2010 were to be elected leaders of the party's new House and Senate majorities on Thursday, Nov. 8.

DFL senators unanimously chose Sen. Tom Bakk of Cook as their majority leader on Thursday, while House DFLers were expected to select Rep. Paul Thissen of Minneapolis to be the next House speaker Thursday night. Thissen was unopposed for the post.

The two veteran lawmakers were promoted from their current offices as minority leaders of their respective caucuses...

Thissen, 45, is an attorney with a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a law degree from the University of Chicago. He has been a House member since 2002 and was elected minority leader in 2010.
