Patsy Mink, '51, To Be Honored With Image on US Quarter

Patsy Mink Quarter

The U.S. Mint recently announced that Patsy Mink, '51, will be one of five women who will be circulated on quarters in 2024 as part of the American Women Quarters Program.

Mink was the first woman of color to serve in Congress. She fought for gender and racial equality, affordable childcare, and environmental protection.

The heads side of the coin depicts a portrait of George Washington. The reverse (tails) depicts Patsy Takemoto Mink holding her landmark “TITLE IX” legislation.  In the background, a view of the US Capitol building prominently features the south wing, home to the U.S. House of Representatives, where Mink served in Congress.  The lei she wears represents her home state of Hawaii.
