Noel Francisco, '96: "The US Senate confirmed Noel Francisco Sept. 19 to be solicitor general, the government’s top lawyer at the US Supreme Court"

Noel Francisco Confirmed as US Solicitor General

The U.S. Senate confirmed Noel Francisco Sept. 19 to be solicitor general, the government’s top lawyer at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Francisco served as deputy solicitor general and acting solicitor general after President Donald Trump took office.

Francisco’s name was floated early for solicitor general, but his prospects seemed to dim after he was pegged for the deputy slot.

The SG search proved difficult, and ultimately Trump tapped Francisco for solicitor general post in early March.

Francisco had to step aside from his roles in the SG’s office while he awaited confirmation. In the meantime, Jeffrey B. Wall has been acting solicitor general.

Francisco was previously a partner at Jones Day, a large law firm which Trump has tapped for other legal talent in his administration, including White House Counsel Don McGahn.

Francisco also clerked for the late Justice Antonin Scalia.
