Palo Alto, Calif. — The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation today announced the appointment of Nancy J. Koch as general counsel and secretary, reporting directly to the Foundation’s president, Steve McCormick.

The role will be expanding to include new responsibilities: refining the Foundation’s approach to advocacy, helping program staff design external networks for greatest impact, and forging partnerships with other multi-stakeholder foundations, advocacy groups, and representatives at every level of government. Koch will assume the new position on August 13th.

“Nancy is an ideal candidate to lead our legal team’s work to increase collaboration with our partners to bring about change in all the fields we support,” said McCormick. “She understands the importance of collaboration, as well as the ins and outs of successful advocacy and network building. We are immensely pleased to gain the benefit of her experience and perspective.”

Since 2007, Koch has worked in legal and advocacy consulting for a variety of entities concerning strategy, collaboration management, licensing, litigation and intellectual property issues, including recent work representing the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

Prior to that, her career included a variety of legal positions with Chiron Corporation and Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc., and a partnership at the Farella, Braun & Martel law firm in San Francisco.

“I’m honored to help realize Gordon and Betty Moore’s vision for future generations,” Koch said. “I plan to do my part by applying everything that I’ve learned about how organizations can create meaningful, lasting change.”
