Sanye Sichinga, ’26, is a newly minted graduate of Howard University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, she has interned in a variety of industries, from accounting to aerospace and fintech. She hopes one day to use her legal education to address inequitable systems and policies.

Please describe your background and professional path.

Since I am jumping straight into law school from undergrad, I have not held any full-time jobs outside of summers. However, I have had the opportunity to intern in various industries such as aerospace, public accounting, non-profit, fintech, and government affairs.

What motivates your decision to go to law school?

I have wanted to go to law school as long as I can remember. The biggest push for me was when I learned that most if not all of the movers and shakers I admire (both past and present) are either practicing attorneys or have a legal education.

Why did you select the University of Chicago Law School?

I selected the University of Chicago Law School because of its combination of stellar reputation, smaller class size, and its ability to weave multiple disciplines into the curriculum.

What do you plan to do with your legal education?

In full transparency, I do not know what I want to be when I grow up. I hope to use my legal education to address inequitable systems and policies in education, entertainment, and more.

What are you most looking forward to about being a law student?

I am really looking forward to connecting with my classmates and learning from them. I know that the people I meet now are going to do some amazing things in the future, and I am excited to bear witness to it.

What are some of your hobbies or interests?

I love music, and almost always have headphones in. I also love all things food. I can’t wait to try new restaurants around the city. But I also enjoy baking and trying new recipes myself, so my roommates will be on the receiving end of some fun treats this year.

What is a “fun fact” about you?

I love making TikToks. Most will never see the light of day, but they are so fun to make regardless.
