Liisa Thomas, '96, Is the One to Call After a Security Lapse

Liisa Thomas, '96, was profiled in Crain's Chicago Business in conjunction with her data breach work:

Liisa Thomas has written the book—or a book—on what to do after a security lapse. The brash title: “Thomas on Data Breach: A Practical Guide to Handling Worldwide Data Breach Notification.”

Ms. Thomas chairs Winston & Strawn LLP's privacy and data security practice, which numbers 25 lawyers. Her career path shows how many of her peers have migrated to cyberspace specialties through patent work. She was a trademark litigator at Gardner Carton & Douglas LLP (later absorbed by Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP), representing Beanie Babies maker Ty Inc. and dealing with child privacy issues stemming from chat-room traffic. “From there, I saw the bigger world of privacy,” she says.
