Kathleen Philips '97 Appointed General Counsel of Zillow.com

Real estate website Zillow.com this week announced the appointment of Kathleen Philips as general counsel. She will report to Zillow's Chief Operating Officer Spencer Rascoff and oversee all the company's legal affairs, including corporate governance, partnership agreements, intellectual property rights and compliance matters.

Philips most recently was general counsel at FanSnap, Inc., a venture capital-backed ticket search engine, where she handled securities law compliance and legal issues relating to investor relations, corporate finance, human resources and technology licensing. In addition, Philips was responsible for customer support, online marketing, and finance operations. During her tenure, she also led lobbying efforts to transform state and federal ticket resale laws.

Before FanSnap, Philips was general counsel at Pure Digital Technologies, the maker of Flip Video cameras acquired by Cisco in 2009, where she handled board and stockholder issues, securities law compliance and intellectual property litigation, among other legal matters.  Prior to that, Philips served as general counsel for StubHub, the online ticket marketplace acquired by eBay in 2007. She also served as general counsel at Hotwire.com, where she led the legal team in the negotiation and closing of the company's $657 million acquisition by InterActiveCorp in 2003.

Philips has also provided outside general counsel services to a wide variety of start-up and mid-stage companies, including TripIt, Inc. and Linden Labs, the maker of Second Life. Philips received her Juris Doctor with Honors from University of Chicago Law School, and received her bachelor's degree with distinction from the University of California, Berkeley.
