Ropes & Gray LLC announced Thursday that John Sorkin, a partner in the firm's private equity and mergers and acquisitions practices, has been named co-managing partner for its New York office.

Sorkin, who has been with the firm since 2015, will share managing duties for the 500-attorney office with Eva Carman, co-head of the firm's securities enforcement practice.

"I'm very excited about it," Sorkin told Law360 Pulse on Thursday. "The growth of the Ropes New York office since I came here in 2015 has been incredible, and it remains an exciting and vibrant place with tremendous opportunity for everyone who's here and everyone who will be coming here in the future. ... There's a lot of excitement about the next period of time, and us taking our place in the New York legal market."
