John Gale '65 to Seek Re-Election as Nebraska Secretary of State

Secretary of State John Gale announced plans Thursday to seek another four years in office.

Gale, 72, has been secretary of state since 2000, when he was appointed by then-Gov. Mike Johanns to fill a vacancy. He won election in 2002, 2006 and 2010.

He plans to kick off his re-election campaign next week with appearances in four cities.
In announcing the campaign tour, Gale said he has focused on quality public service, transparency and integrity while in office.

Among his accomplishments, he listed improving the state's election system, increasing and improving online access for Nebraska businesses, streamlining records management for state agencies and working to promote the state's commerce, educational and cultural benefits to international visitors.

Gale practiced law in North Platte before becoming secretary of state. Previous positions include working as a legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Roman Hruska in Washington, D.C., and as an assistant U.S. attorney in Omaha and Lincoln.

He graduated from Omaha North High School and got a law degree from the University of Chicago.
