Jean Maclean Snyder, attorney and advocate for the incarcerated, dies at 83

Jean Maclean Snyder passed away peacefully at her home on April 27, 2025 at the age of 83 in Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois. Jean was a loved grandmother, mother, wife, friend and colleague, a passionate lawyer advocate and a lover of animals and nature.

Jean was born January 26, 1942 in Hyde Park on the South Side of Chicago and lived there her entire life. Her father, Norman Maclean, was an English professor at the University of Chicago and her mother, Jessie Burns Maclean worked at the University of Chicago Medical School. Jean attended the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools through her high school graduation in 1959 and went on to get her A.B. from the University in 1963.
