James Alan Malkus, ’61, 1937-2024

James Alan Malkus

James Alan Malkus was born in Chicago May 5th, 1937. He graduated from South Shore high school in 1954 and lettered in tennis. He excelled in school, and his love for learning led him to the University of Chicago, where he continued to shine, eventually earning his degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
After earning his law degree, joined the Navy, serving in the Judge Advocate General Corps. He was first stationed in Norfolk, VA and eventually came out to San Diego, following his older brother Bob, a Navy doctor, whom he admired and loved to no end.
Jim was a partner in a local law firm for many years. In 1980, Governor Jerry Brown appointed him to the San Diego Superior Court. He served as a Superior Court Judge for over 2 decades and his commitment to justice and fairness touched the lives of many, earning him the admiration of colleagues and community members alike.
