Jack Beem '55's Collection of Japanese Prints On Display at Art Institute of Chicago

Chicago has boasted many great Japanese print collectors in its history, and Jack D. Beem '55 is one of the foremost in Chicago today. Jack lived in Japan from 1964 to 1970, during which time he began a lifelong interest in Japanese art. Drawn to many of the arts of Japan initially, he found himself lured time and again back to the beauty, techniques, and forms in Japanese contemporary prints. His print collecting began in 1965 and has continued on frequent trips back to Japan.

Jack’s focus has been on new, emerging artists, especially those who use a variety of techniques such as mezzotint, silkscreen, and updated methods of traditional woodblock printing in their works.

This is the first exhibition to focus exclusively on the Beem collection.
