Dave Finkel, ’21, Named James Wilson Fellow

Dave Finkel, ’21, was recently named one of 17 recipients of the 2023 James Wilson Fellowship.

Finkel and the other fellows will spend a week in Washington, DC, studying the moral underpinnings of the law and the jurisprudence of natural rights. The seminars will be led by Amherst College Professor Emeritus Hadley Arkes, founder and director of the James Wilson Institute, as well as several other prominent legal scholars.

Finkel clerks for Judge Timothy M. Tymkovich of the US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Last year, he clerked for Judge Jeffrey V. Brown of the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

At the Law School, Finkel was a Tony Patiño Fellow and president of Law School Veterans.

He also interned with US District Court Judge Lee H. Rosenthal of the Southern District of Texas and summered at Schiffer Hicks Johnson in Houston. Prior to law school, Finkel served eight years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army.
