Cyrus Amir-Mokri, '95, Confirmed as Treasury Department’s Asst. Secretary for Financial Institutions

Cyrus Amir-Mokri, '95, was confirmed by the Senate last night as the U.S. Treasury Department’s assistant secretary for financial institutions.

Amir-Mokri “has a wealth of experience in financial regulatory issues, including his work at the CFTC helping to secure historic financial reform,” Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner said in a release.

Amir-Mokri, 47, replaces Michael Barr, who left the Treasury last year to return to the University of Michigan. Amir-Mokri most recently served as senior counsel to the Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and was the agency’s deputy representative to the Financial Stability Oversight Council.

He was a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP focusing on complex securities and antitrust litigation. He was a clerk for U.S. Circuit Judge Bruce M. Selya of the federal appeals court in Boston, attended the University of Chicago Law School and received a Ph.D. in history from the University of Chicago.
