Cynthia Marian, ’08, Joins Mayer Brown’s Global Funds & Asset Management Practice as Partner

Mayer Brown strengthens private investment funds capabilities with the addition of Cynthia Marian

Mayer Brown announced today that Cynthia Marian has joined the firm as a partner in its global Funds & Asset Management practice. Cynthia joins from Greenberg Traurig, P.A.

“Cynthia is widely recognized as a leading private funds lawyer, advising private equity fund sponsors, hedge fund managers, and global asset managers on fund formation, structuring, and regulatory compliance matters,” said Timothy Clark, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Funds & Asset Management practice. “Her deep experience across private equity, private credit, and hedge funds will be a tremendous asset to our clients and further strengthen our market-leading funds practice.”

Cynthia advises fund sponsors and asset managers on the structuring, formation, and ongoing operations of private funds and alternative investment vehicles globally, as well as on sponsor and “upper-tier” entity structuring, seed deals, GP stake transactions, continuation vehicles, co-investments, and complex side letter negotiations. She also has significant experience counseling institutional investors in connection with their investments in funds, including as anchor investors, and in seed and stake deals with fund sponsors. Cynthia began her career as an attorney with another global law firm and then served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for private equity and hedge fund managers before returning to private practice. She holds a JD from the University of Chicago Law School and an LL.M. in Taxation from NYU’s School of Law, and she is admitted to the Bar in Florida, New Jersey, and New York.
